Gap Year Scholarships


Do you have big gap year dreams but a low gap year budget? If so, this is just what you’ve been looking for! Inspiration Publications is offering multiple Gap Year Scholarships to readers of Where’s the Map? Create Your OWN Guide to Life After Graduation.

There are tons of scholarships out there to assist you on your educational journey, but we haven’t seen many that will help you with your travel, volunteer, leadership, and adventure goals. We believe so much in the idea of taking some time to see the world, meet new people, learn more about yourself, and explore your future career possibilities with real tangible experiences, that we want to support you if you have a gap year vision that has not been achieved.

Scholarship Guidelines:

1. To be eligible for the scholarship you must be a citizen of the United States, have graduated from high school, and will be eighteen to twenty-five years old during your gap year experience.

2. Complete the Gap Year chapter (chapter 3) in Where’s the Map and type a 500 word essay summarizing your values, mission, vision, and steps related to your proposed gap year experience. The essay should include where you want to go, what you want to do, why you want to do it, how you plan to get there, and how you plan to pay for the experience. Be sure to type your name and e-mail address in the upper right hand corner of each page.

3. Photocopy and include with your application pages 63-64, which represents the “Steps” section of Chapter 3.

4. Download the Gap Year Scholarship 2009 Application Form. Fill out the PDF form on your computer and print it out, or you may complete it by hand.

5. If you’re planning on doing an internship or working with a volunteer or travel organization, you also need to include proof of application/acceptance into the program.

6. Include one letter of recommendation from an adult in your life who can attest to your character and your desire, willingness, and ability to participate in your proposed gap year experience.

7. Applications will be awarded based on creativity, originality, clarity of your vision and passion to participate in your gap year opportunity.

8. Mail the application form, the essay, a recent photo of yourself, recommendation letter and a copy of your proof of application/acceptance to

Entries must be postmarked no later than July 1, 2009. Winners will be announced in August. Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail and e-mail, and their names, photographs, schools and home states will be listed on our Web sites.
