Find out more about the book

“What a GREAT gift for a young person! What a ‘dream’ book for them to create and guide their own future! It is excellent and I will definitely encourage my students to spend thoughtful time with it as they begin their work with me. You present so many levels and layers of options and possibilities for young people, which they rarely have the opportunity to see, let alone explore in their school-structured lives.

There can be a great deal of anxiety and tension around being 16-18 . . . ‘life’ is coming at young people so rapidly and they feel their capabilities and their weaknesses acutely. Your book could provide the antidote to that tension—a personal and private opportunity to examine, honor, and indeed celebrate the unique potential of every young person willing to take a good close look at her or his ‘self’.”

Career Voices Interview Series

The Career Voices Interview Series is a collection of recorded interviews designed to help people make educated decisions when choosing a career path, no matter whether it is their first career or a mid life career change.  Each recording includes interviews with top professionals working within a career field, employers who hire within that field, self-employed individuals in these careers, schools who train students for these careers, and professional associations that support people in these fields.

Sample Career Interview

Take for example our Accountant Interview. We interview top accountants about their jobs, asking what a typical workday/workweek looks like for them, what they do and don’t like about their jobs, and what recommendations or advice they would have for someone looking into becoming an accountant. The recording also includes interviews with people involved in accounting degree programs, about things like prerequisites, required courses, and certification exams. Human Resources people at accounting firms tell us what they look for in a prospective employee and what typical working conditions are like. We also interview people from professional associations such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants about issues and trends within the accounting profession.

Subscriptions for Libraries

The Career Voices Interview Series will be launched in January of 2009, and will be available to libraries first as a monthly subscription, billed annually, and later ala carte by career. Recordings can be shipped to libraries on a monthly basis on compact disk or delivered via MP3 digital audio files which the library can then burn to CD, offer on a MP3 player (ipod), or as a digital file that can be checked out and downloaded directly from the library web site. Participation in the telephone seminars is usually $29.95 per person, per session, but the monthly recordings on CD are only $14.95, which includes shipping. These particular recordings are only going to be made available to libraries, and can only be purchased directly from Inspiration Publications.

Summer Tele-class Bonus

As a special bonus for libraries who purchase a one-year subscription to the Career Voices Interview Series, we are offering a special summer tele-class series for high school students and recent graduates, which will guide them through the Where’s the Map? text. The classes will be held for one hour once a week for three weeks, and will be conducted in a conference call format, where all participating libraries will dial in to special number to join the call. Libraries can either host the call in a small class or conference room and listen in via speakerphone, or allow patrons to register their attendance with us and dial in from their own private home or cellular phone.

Each tele-class will feature lessons, lectures, and real-life examples from the authors and other guest speakers, and a Q&A session. Questions for the Q&A session will be submitted to the authors via e-mail and answered live over the telephone. Students at a prestigious college-prep high school in Hawaii paid over $1,000 each to participate in a similar live class last summer. Advance registration is required to ensure that we have reserved enough lines with the conference call service. Our tele-classes usually retail for $30 per person, per session, but will be offered for FREE to every student who registers through a local public library participating in the Career Voices subscription program.
